My name is Clarence Bakken . I worked at Cubberley, Palo Alto and Gunn High Schools in Palo Alto, California, over a period of 35 years, retiring from the classroom in 2002. I taught primarily Physics, ranging from Conceptual through AP-C in these three Palo Alto Unified School District high schools. In my later teaching years I spent increasing amounts of time with technology, and spent all of my time one year implementing the Digital High School program at Gunn HS as well as a stint teaching Video Production. Following retirement from the classroom, I spent 18 years doing training and consulting for Vernier Software & Technology . As the pandemic hit, face-to-face teaching stopped and it was about time to retire, anyway. My heart is still there with hands-on teaching and learning, but it’s time to let the younger folks take over. These days I get out to the golf course about two days a week and enjoy watching our grandkids grow up and meet the world. We’re vaxed, boosted, and hoping things continue turning up for the better. My golf websites: Foon Hay Seniors Golf Club is a coed group of over 50 seniors who enjoy playing our monthly tournaments at various courses around the Bay Area. We usually have a 2-day "Road Trip" at some point which can range from the Monterey Bay area to the Sierra Foothills. I am the webmaster for this club. Retirees Invitational Golf Group, (RIGG ) is a group of senior male golfers centered in the San Jose, CA, area. We play weekly at a variety of courses ranging from Monterey to Livermore. In addition to maintaining the website, I also organize team events that occur approximately once per month. Foon Hay and 20 more clubs along the west coast from Tucson, AZ to Vancouver, B.C. are organized via the Association of International Golf Clubs . "igolfclubs" for short co-sponsors two major tournaments each year where golfers from throughout our range gather to compete, socialize and renew old friendships. Physics-related websites: WebLabs is a collection of approximately 60 labs that I worked on over a number of years. While using primarily interfacing equipment from Vernier Software & Technology Company, many ideas can be adapted readily to other companies’ offerings. Physics Day @ Great America is a website to accompany the PSM Days at California’s Great America in Santa Clara, CA. I’ve been keeping this site up since the 1990’s. Check it out! Project PHYSLab was a program taught by high school physics teachers to high school physics teachers. We hosted three groups at Gunn H.S. and some of the ideas the participants developed are contained on these web pages. Optics Bookshelf was originally a HyperCard stack but has been adapted to a Web format. Students are encouraged to check it out as they study Geometric Optics. Proportions is another collection of pages that were originally HyperCard. This is of use to students beginning to get a better idea about the mathematics involved in basic physics course.
